Teaching Competence

Teaching and Pedagogical Competence

The Department of Cultural Technology and Communication awards a Certificate of Teaching and Pedagogical Competence to students and graduates who meet the required academic criteria.

The certificate is awarded either upon graduation, together with the degree, or after graduation upon submission of an application.

Requirements

To obtain the certificate, students must successfully complete at least three (3) courses, meeting the following requirements:

  • at least one course from each of the three subject areas;
  • a total of at least 15 ECTS credits.

For graduates, eligibility is verified based on the official transcript of records issued at the time of graduation.

Courses by Subject Area

Subject Area 1: Education and Pedagogy

Students must successfully complete at least one of the following courses:

  • Sociology of Education (467) – 6 ECTS – Department of Sociology
  • Fundamentals of Teaching (PDE 100) – 6 ECTS – Department of Cultural Technology and Communication
  • Educational Psychology (GEO 450) – 5 ECTS – Department of Geography

Subject Area 2: Learning and Teaching

Students must successfully complete at least one of the following courses:

  • Distance Education (4ETDE104) – 5 ECTS – Department of Cultural Technology and Communication
    Former title: Distance Education and Lifelong Learning
  • Introduction to Educational Technology (4ETDE100) – 6 ECTS – Department of Cultural Technology and Communication
  • Collaborative Learning and Social Interaction in the Digital Age (4ETDE110) – 5 ECTS – Department of Cultural Technology and Communication
    Former title: Collaborative Learning Environments and Communication Models

Subject Area 3: Teaching Practice

Students must successfully complete at least one of the following courses:

  • Applied Didactics (PDE 101) – 5 ECTS – Department of Cultural Technology and Communication
  • General Didactics (GEO 350) – 5 ECTS – Department of Geography

Interdepartmental Courses

The following courses are classified as School Interdepartmental Elective Courses (SICs) and may be selected without restriction:

  • Educational Psychology (GEO 450)
  • Sociology of Education (467)
  • General Didactics (GEO 350)

Eligibility by Year of Admission

In accordance with Law 4957/2022, the Department will continue to award the Certificate of Teaching and Pedagogical Competence to graduates admitted up to and including the 2026–2027 academic year, upon application, provided that they satisfy the above requirements.

Students admitted from the 2027–2028 academic year onwards will be eligible to obtain the Certificate through a Special Programme of Studies, which will be implemented across the University of the Aegean for students of all departments.
