Doctoral Studies

Undertaking a Doctoral Thesis

The Programme of Study leading to a Doctoral Diploma (Ph.D.) in the science of Cultural Technology and Communication admits holders of a Master's Degree of Specialisation (MSc) from universities in Greece and abroad. In exceptional cases, non-holders of such a degree may be admitted, provided that they possess distinctive research, scholarly and authorial experience — recognised in Greece or abroad — on matters relating to the scientific and research subjects of the Department, in accordance with the Institution's Postgraduate Studies Regulation.

The minimum duration for the completion of a doctoral thesis is three full calendar years from the date of appointment of the doctoral candidate's advisory committee. The maximum permitted duration for the award of the Doctoral Diploma may not exceed six (6) years.

Those interested in undertaking a doctoral thesis at the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication submit an application to the Department's Secretariat, together with a detailed curriculum vitae and certified copies of their degree titles. At the same time, candidates draw up a research proposal, in which the proposed subject of their doctoral research is presented. The General Assembly of the Department decides on the selection of doctoral candidates and appoints the members of the advisory committee for the undertaking of the doctoral thesis.

During the course of the thesis, students carry out original research or field research, develop their research skills and enrich in depth their knowledge in the research field in which they operate. The academic staff of the Department undertake the supervision of doctoral research within the Department's fields of knowledge. The doctoral research supervision committee may also include teaching staff from other university institutions in Greece or abroad, as well as Grade A, B or C researchers of recognised research centres in Greece or abroad who hold a doctoral diploma.

For the undertaking of postdoctoral research, those interested may consult the Postdoctoral Studies Regulation and find the relevant application on the University's website at this link.
